Zelenskyy Foresees Increasing Opposition to Putin Ahead of September Vote

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Sunday that dissatisfaction among Russian citizens toward President Vladimir Putin is likely to intensify in the run-up to parliamentary elections planned for September.

He claimed that Ukrainian intelligence services had accessed materials reportedly reaching Putin’s office, arguing that the Russian leader is not always provided with fully accurate assessments of internal affairs. Nevertheless, he added that such documents still make it possible to identify broader domestic patterns.

"Russians’ dissatisfaction with Putin will continue to rise steadily," and it “will not plateau” by September, when parliamentary elections are scheduled in Russia, Zelenskyy said on X.

He also suggested that backing for the ruling party, United Russia, is gradually weakening, describing it as a "steady downward trend," suggesting that "significantly greater electoral fraud" would be needed to secure the desired result.

Zelenskyy further pointed to additional assessments indicating growing levels of protest sentiment inside Russia.
