Arab FMs Call on Iran to Compensate for Attacks, Maritime Disruption

(MENAFN) Arab foreign ministers on Tuesday called for Iran to compensate several Arab states for what they described as attacks and for disruptions linked to the closure of key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.

The position was outlined in a resolution adopted during an emergency Arab League meeting held via video conference under Bahrain’s chairmanship.

The resolution stated that Iran carries “full international responsibility” for alleged attacks affecting Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and Iraq, and said it must provide “full reparation” for all damages and losses under international law.

It also criticized Iran’s actions regarding maritime passages, including the Strait of Hormuz and threats related to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, saying such measures undermine international law and the principle of free navigation.

Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani said Iran’s actions have disrupted shipping routes and posed risks to energy supplies, food and medicine shipments, and global trade stability.

He added that Iran should be held accountable for the impact of restricting international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement comes after Iran earlier this month issued its own demands for compensation from several Arab countries, alleging their involvement in actions against Tehran during the ongoing regional tensions.
