US Forces Intercept, Board Sanctioned Vessel in Indo-Pacific Operation
The US Department of Defense said the operation involved a “right-of-visit” and maritime interdiction procedure targeting a tanker identified as M/T Tifani. Officials stated that the boarding took place without incident and formed part of broader efforts to monitor and disrupt maritime activity linked to sanctioned entities.
According to the Pentagon, the operation is connected to ongoing efforts to prevent vessels allegedly supporting Iran from operating in international waters. It emphasized that such enforcement actions are aimed at targeting illicit shipping networks and restricting their access to global maritime routes.
The department also stated that international waters should not be used as safe zones for sanctioned vessels and reaffirmed its intention to continue maritime enforcement operations against what it described as illicit actors.
The announcement reflects continued US activity in monitoring and interdicting shipping believed to be connected to sanctioned trade networks, as tensions remain elevated in global maritime corridors.
