China Says Mideast at Critical Point Amid US-Iran Negotiation Efforts

(MENAFN) China has described the situation in the Middle East as being at a “critical stage,” as diplomatic efforts continue to arrange another round of US-Iran talks in Pakistan.

Speaking at a regular briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the region is now at a decisive point regarding whether the conflict can be brought to an end.

He stressed the importance of restraint and dialogue, saying that all parties should demonstrate strong sincerity, remain committed to political solutions, and maintain momentum toward ceasefire and negotiations, as well as work toward restoring normal navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring stability in the Gulf region, according to his remarks.

Guo also said China would continue to cooperate with the international community and play a constructive role in supporting efforts toward de-escalation.

Pakistan previously hosted the first round of talks after helping broker a temporary ceasefire agreement, with discussions now underway for a possible second round in Islamabad.

However, Iranian participation remains uncertain.

US officials have indicated that Vice President JD Vance will again lead the American delegation, while questions remain over whether the ceasefire will be extended as negotiations continue.
