U.S. Sanders Renews Push to End US Arms Aid to Israel

(MENAFN) U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders launched a fierce condemnation of Israeli military operations and settler activity in the West Bank on Tuesday, intensifying his push to cut off American weapons transfers to Israel.

"It's not just Gaza, Iran and Lebanon," Sanders wrote on X, the American social media platform.

The Vermont senator cited a devastating toll since October 2023: 1,071 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces and settlers, more than 6,000 homes demolished, and upward of 200 illegal outposts erected across the West Bank. "No more U.S. military aid to Israel," he added.

The remarks follow a significant legislative defeat for Sanders last week, when the Senate struck down two resolutions he sponsored aimed at blocking nearly $500 million in arms sales to Israel.

Washington has faced sustained international criticism over its military backing of Israel throughout the Gaza conflict, where the death toll has surpassed 72,000 — the majority of them women and children — since hostilities erupted on Oct. 7, 2023. Although a ceasefire took hold in October 2025, breaches have been reported with alarming regularity.

Sanders is among a growing bloc of American legislators pressing the administration to halt weapons shipments, with several members of Congress openly accusing the U.S. government of complicity in the ongoing devastation in Gaza.
