Muslim civilian disarms shooter of Sydney terrorist attack
The attack targeted the Chanukah By the Sea event, leaving at least 12 people dead and more than two dozen injured. Police killed one of the gunmen, while the other was apprehended in critical condition.
Videos circulating online show a middle-aged man, identified as Ahmed al-Ahmed, a local fruit shop owner and member of the Muslim community, approaching one of the shooters and wresting the firearm from him. The gunman then retreated to his accomplice.
Al-Ahmed suffered at least two gunshot wounds during the confrontation and was hospitalized, though relatives confirmed his injuries were not life-threatening. The footage of his heroic actions quickly went viral, with widespread recognition of his bravery in preventing further casualties.
