Indigenous Indian Jet Crashes During Dubai Airshow
In the statement, the IAF reported that “An IAF Tejas aircraft met with an accident during an aerial display at the Dubai Air Show today. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident.”
The force, while “Deeply” expressing sorrow over the tragedy, noted that it “stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief.”
The IAF further emphasized that it will “ascertain the cause of the accident,” as mentioned in the announcement.
Earlier, footage shared across social media platforms displayed the single-seat fighter plunging to the ground during its performance at the Dubai Airshow, releasing a massive plume of smoke.
As reported by Indian broadcaster NDTV, the impact occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. local time (1210GMT), shortly before dense smoke spread across the vicinity of Al Maktoum International Airport.
Developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the aircraft’s crash at the Dubai Airshow represents the second incident involving a Tejas jet in under two years, the report stated.
The previous incident took place last March, when a Tejas fighter went down in the western Indian state of Rajasthan—“the first such accident in the aircraft's 23-year history since its maiden test flight in 2001,” although the pilot managed to eject safely, the report added.
