UN Renews Sanctions on Sudan Over Darfur Crisis

(MENAFN) The United Nations Security Council on Friday voted to renew sanctions on Sudan due to the ongoing situation in the Darfur region, extending the restrictions for another year.

In a unanimous decision, all 15 council members approved Resolution 2791, which extends the sanctions regime until September 12, 2026. This includes an arms embargo and targeted measures such as travel bans and asset freezes.

Additionally, the resolution extends the mandate of the Panel of Experts assisting the Sudan Sanctions Committee. The mandate, previously set to expire on March 12, 2026, has now been extended until October 12, 2026. The extension is aimed at ensuring alignment between the renewal of sanctions and the panel's mandate.

The council also requested that the panel submit a final report by July 13, 2026, detailing its findings and recommendations, according to official documents from the Security Council.
